Sabrina Carpenter’s Short N Sweet Tour Is Seductive, Steamy Fun

Oh, Sabrina Carpenter leaves quite an impression – five feet to be exact.

The six-time Grammy Award-nominated singer, former Disney Channel star and Eras Tour opener took her first arena tour to the Footprint Center in downtown Phoenix on Wednesday, Nov. 13, and it was something fans will think about every night.

The Short N’ Sweet Tour is named after Carpenter’s sixth studio album, released in August. It was his first chart-topping album with hits like “Espresso,” “Please Please Please,” and “Taste.”

Frankly speaking, his sold-out stop in Phoenix was raunchy entertainment that might not be suitable for kids. However, I listened to the Pussycat Dolls when I was younger, so I’m not going to tell you what to do.

Carpenter divided his performance into three separate acts full of drama, emotion, laughter and dancing. The crowd was there with her when she said the last time she played Arizona was on the Emails I Can’t Send tour, where she said the Phoenix crowd was “built differently “.

“There’s something animalistic about you, in the best way, and that’s like the only audience I want to play for,” Carpenter said.

Sabrina Carpenter kicked off her Phoenix concert with “Taste”

Carpenter’s theatrics and facial expressions throughout the evening were enough to entertain you alone, and his strong vocals were the icing on the cake of a fun evening.

Carpenter’s set was reminiscent of a Barbie dreamhouse with a ’70s-style fireplace, bathroom, balcony and conversation area.

She began the concert with “Taste,” wearing a faux bath towel to reveal her first look of the evening, a custom monochrome Victoria’s Secret corset bodysuit in a bold blue.

Her microphone floated towards her from the rafters, at which point Carpenter used her acting skills to pretend she couldn’t reach her.

The lyrics “Sorry if you’re feeling objectified” were written on her upper thigh and showed that she’s not one to skimp on details.

The concert was billed as “Short N’ Sweet TV” with the slogan “a little goes a long way.” A male narrator occasionally spoke between songs, and fake commercials were played between acts.

Carpenter made you feel like you were watching her on TV, and she doesn’t just have acting skills on the small screen. Carpenter made her Broadway debut in the 2020 musical “Mean Girls,” where it was scheduled to run for three months, but was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It was refreshing to see Carpenter put her other talents to good use throughout her show as she danced, joked with the audience, sang songs, and put on little skits.

Before launching into her “Juno” performance, Carpenter selects someone in the audience who she says makes her feel “edgy and hot” and proclaims them the love of her life. In Phoenix, she chose Declan McKenna, her opening act, for this piece.

She said her “celebrity crush was Declan McKenna” and claimed it was so crazy he looked like her.

“I’m getting really hot, guys. I don’t know what to do, my clothes are falling off,” Carpenter said as her long, sparkly yellow skirt became a shorter version.

She then “arrested” McKenna in pink handcuffs as police sirens played in the background before launching into “Juno.”

In Act II, she and her dancers enter the conversation pit and play Spin the Bottle. Carpenter uses the game to determine which cover she will perform. In Phoenix, it was Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5.”

Sabrina Carpenter blushed in front of a fan named Daniel because he was “too sexy” during her concert in Columbus, Ohio.

Carpenter sang “Good Graces”, “Lie to Girls”

Carpenter has often found herself in the middle of love triangle rumors, whether with Joshua Bassett and Olivia Rodrigo in January 2021 or with Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello throughout 2023.

She also dealt with her share of heartbreak and general boy issues, which allowed her to give a powerful performance and build relationships with her female audience members.

Fans shouted “I don’t care about you” alongside Carpenter during “Good Graces” and enjoyed his country accent and lyrics like “This boy don’t even know the difference between there, them and them.” Yet He’s Naked in My Room,” from “Slim Pickins.”

She also took a photo during the song before segueing into “Tornado Warnings” from her 2022 album “Emails I Can’t Send.” This song refers to going back to an ex and lying to your therapist.

Carpenter continues with self-awareness and male issues when she performs “Lie to Girls.” She shares tender moments with her dancers by singing the lyrics: “You don’t have to lie to girls. If they love you, they will lie to themselves.

Carpenter became emotional while performing “Sharpest Tool.” This refers to the familiar experience of facing mixed messages or heartbreak and ending up on the bathroom floor in tears. Although Carpenter wasn’t bawling, she took the gloves off her black bodysuit as she sat on a fake toilet before singing into her mirror.

As she expressed her powerful voice, the audience could see her expressions through a camera in the mirror, showing all the painful emotions written on her face.

During Act III, Carpenter performed a moving ballad of “Dumb & Poetic” in front of a single projector, surrounded by twinkling lights and his face projected dramatically onto a white sheet. You could feel the heartbreak as fans poured out their feelings by singing the lyrics alongside Carpenter.

The night was cathartic for those who were heartbroken, and Carpenter delivered a great balance of fantasy and passion.

Declan McKenna opened for Sabrina Carpenter in Phoenix

English singer-songwriter Declan McKenna is best known for his single “Brazil” from his debut studio album “What Do You Think About the Car?” », released in December 2015.

The song went viral on TikTok in May 2022 and reached its highest chart peaks in the UK and Ireland.

McKenna opened her set in Phoenix with “That’s Life” before launching into “Beautiful Faces,” which had the audience raising their hands, swaying alongside her in the colorful yet moody strobe lights.

The drums were powerful and throughout his performance it seemed like the instruments were drowning out his rather nice and deep voice.

McKenna is dashing and his cover of ABBA’s “Slipping Through My Fingers” was a perfect song to perform later in the set to show off his charm.
