Cats eat Palestinian corpses in Gaza amid devastating Israeli attacks

Cats have been seen eating the corpses of Palestinians in central Gaza amid devastating war Israeli incursion which left dozens of dead and prevented rescuers from providing assistance to the victims.

Footage posted Sunday by local video creator Talal Mahmoud showed cats eating the corpses of Palestinians strewn in the streets near a UN-run school in the Nuseirat refugee camp.

Ambulances and first responders have been unable to reach many areas under attack due to intense Israeli bombardment in recent days.

The Gaza-based government media office on Monday condemned the “horrific war crimes” committed by Israeli forces during their latest ground attack on the Nuseirat camp, which local media reported began over the weekend.

The media office said 17 tanks and other military vehicles stormed the camp under the cover of drones and airstrikes.

This “brutal assault” killed at least 50 people and destroyed or seriously damaged 20 homes, the office said in a statement.

“We strongly condemn the savage aggression carried out by the Israeli occupying forces against the new al-Nuseirat camp,” the statement added.

“This attack is part of a broader campaign of genocide, systematic killings, total destruction and forced displacement of civilians. »

While Nuseirat was heavily attacked, Israeli drone strikes hit makeshift camps for displaced people in the “humanitarian zone” west of Khan Younis on Sunday evening, killing 11 people.

Another airstrike killed at least five people delivering humanitarian trucks near the Rafah “humanitarian zone”.

“We were sitting in our tents when missiles suddenly started raining down on us,” Rizq Ashour, 53, a survivor of the bombing, told Middle East Eye.

“What do they want from us? They direct us to this safe zone and we come here and then they bomb us,” he added.

“They have no humanity.”

The Israeli army admitted to bombing the makeshift camp in the Khan Younis “humanitarian zone”, saying it was targeting a Hamas member.

Ashour said those killed were civilians.

Kamal Adwan attacked

Meanwhile, Israeli troops continued to lay siege to Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza as airstrikes heavily pounded the area around it.

On Monday, Dr Hussam Abu Safiya, director of the hospital, told MEE that on Sunday, tanks and bulldozers approached the west gate under the cover of heavy gunfire aimed at the facility.

The shelling continued throughout the night, he said, destroying surrounding homes and buildings.

“The bullets penetrated the intensive care unit, the maternity ward and the specialized surgery ward,” Abou Safiya said.

He added that one of the generators had been targeted and completely knocked out of service.

According to Abu Safiya, 91 hospitalized patients, including adults, children and women, are currently receiving the minimum level of care.

“The shelling continues from all sides, affecting the building, services and staff,” the doctor said.

“This is a serious and extremely horrific situation. The world needs to understand that our hospital is being targeted with the intent to kill us and forcibly displace us. »

The death toll in Gaza now exceeds 45,300 since October 7, 2023, with more than 107,000 injured, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced on Monday.

According to the UN, 70 percent of victims are children and women.
