Rebecca Ferguson wants to finish ‘The whole story’ of ‘Silo’ in 4 seasons

As “Silo” Season 2 begins rolling out this week on Apple TV+, with star and producer Rebecca Ferguson looking forward to seeing the full sci-fi story from the source material told on screen. For that, she says they will need about four seasons.

“Silo” is based on the trilogy of books by Hugh Howey, which envisions a dystopian future in which society lives in a massive underground silo while the outside world is unlivable.

“I believe the whole story of the three books should be told over four seasons,” she told TheWrap in an interview about season 2. “And then it’s about the people who love the show and everything we do is our best to put it out there and hope people want more.

When asked about the status of the Season 3 renewal, Ferguson was coy.

“We are constantly discussing (the possibility of a season 3). It may be (renewed), I can’t tell you. This may not be the case. We might have finished it. Or maybe nothing happens. I mean, I could just be lying.

In the season 1 finale, Ferguson’s Juliette Nichols got out and survived, having uncovered a conspiracy by those in power to ensure the death of everyone who gets out. But once outside, she discovered that their silo was surrounded by a lot no more silos.

Season 2 picks up immediately where Season 1 left off with a largely wordless first episode that follows Juliette as she struggles to access the nearest silo before running out of oxygen. It was a deeply physical performance, a challenge Ferguson relished.

“I loved it. That’s what history is. She goes from absolute chaos to complete solitude, and that change is so good,” Ferguson said. “I love that (showrunner) Graham Yost lets the episode be a standalone moment for her, and not cut off from the sound, the noise, the rebellion, the tumult, the anger and the confusion.”

The season also posed another challenge in that Ferguson’s main on-screen partner is Steve Zahn, who plays new character Solo, a man she discovers in an abandoned silo. The actress said she was over the moon when Zahn accepted the role.

“I knew he was going to do something so unpredictable, and that would selfishly put me in a scenario where the person I’m playing with is going to make every scene interesting,” she said. “He doesn’t look at the bigger picture. Steve looks over at this point. That’s how he works, and I’m a lot like him. What is it about this moment between you and me that will make this interesting? And then we just play.

Since Ferguson and Zahn’s scenes all take place in a different silo from the rest of this season’s story, they not only filmed separately from the rest of the cast, but they filmed their half of the season after the entire world has finished, after the strikes. .

The team used the same sets from the original silo but dressed them differently for Ferguson and Zahn’s scenes, which take place in an abandoned, dilapidated, waterlogged silo. “Everything looked so different and abandoned, but it’s such a huge space,” Ferguson added.

Even though Ferguson loves “Silo,” she still hasn’t seen season 2 for “various reasons.”

“I get the dailies and the cutaways, but I don’t want to see them because I don’t see it as my job as a producer of this show,” she said. “Seeing the raw footage with the green screen and the blue screen, I found it really disconcerting, so I decided it wasn’t a good idea.”

The actress was sick for the series premiere and so missed the chance to see the first episode on the big screen – “which is really, really sad,” she said – but she admitted to seeing lots of footage of the scenes between her and Zahn.

“Because they are so friendly, I was so close, I wanted to see what was happening in the dynamic between us.”

His verdict? “It’s great.”

Season 2 of “Silo” premiered this week on Apple TV+ with its first episode. New episodes are released every Friday.
