Former Reds outfielder who won 2 career World Series titles has died

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – An outfielder who spent time with the Cincinnati Reds but won two titles while playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers has died.

Al Ferrera, known as “The Bull,” died Friday at the age of 84, the Dodgers announced. Ferrara was a key player for this franchise in the 1960s, contributing to the World Series championship teams in 1963 and 1965.

“We are saddened to learn of the passing of Al Ferrara today,” said Dodgers Chairman and CEO Stan Kasten. “Not only was Al a memorable player for the Dodgers in the 1960s, but he also tirelessly supported the efforts of the Dodgers community and was one of our most committed former supporters. We extend our sympathies to his family.”

Ferrara, a Brooklyn native, signed with the Dodgers in 1958 and made his Major League debut in 1963. In five seasons there, he developed a reputation as a reliable outfielder and power hitter.

After the 1968 season, Ferrara was selected by the San Diego Padres in the expansion draft. He played two-plus seasons in Southern California, then briefly played for the Reds before retiring in 1971. In 32 games in Cincinnati that season, Ferrara hit just .182 with one home run and five runs scored. products.

Ferrara finished his eight-year MLB career hitting .259/.344/.423 with 51 home runs, 198 RBIs and 141 runs scored.
