Sony has officially confirmed that it will launch new A1 Mark II mirrorless camera products today, November 19, with the announcement scheduled for 9:00 AM EST / 2:00 PM BST (i.e. midnight AEST). The announcement will take place live on YouTube and Sony invites everyone to follow along, and you can be sure we will be there.

The announcement teaser does nothing other than show us the name α 1 II illuminated by lights with time and date – with a word clue of what lies ahead which is simply Without equal.

It’s not much – but it’s obviously an update to the Sony A1which launched in January 2021. At the time, its 50 MP full-frame sensor could shoot burst footage at 30 fps, shoot 8K video and had real-time Eye AF for photographing birds and more .

It was really impressive at the time… but since then we’ve seen many flagship professional mirrorless cameras released. There is the Sony A9 III to start – and this week again, the Canon EOS R1 has gone on sale… So what can the new Sony A1 II bring to the party?
