Football fans love nothing more than an epic comeback, and there have been some incredible ones over the years.

The fans of course have their favorites and think theirs are the best. Who can blame a little team bias?

There’s nothing like seeing your own team make a comeback to end all comebacks.

But which are the best in history?

From European epics to World Cup classics, talkSPORT.com has put together THE definitive list to end the debate.

11. Liverpool vs Barcelona – Champions League 2019

Led 3-0 against Barcelona, Liverpool knew they would have to produce one of the greatest comebacks to reach the Champions League final in 2019.

That’s exactly what they did at Anfield, with Divock Origi writing himself into Anfield folklore by scoring twice as they beat Barca 4-0.

Merseyside was in full swing for this absolute classic, and who can forget the quick thinking of Trent Alexander-Arnold to take a quick corner which was converted by Origi.

It was the first time since 1986 that a team overcame a three-goal deficit in the first leg of a European Cup match to advance to the next round.

10. Charlton v Huddersfield – 1957

This second division match in December 1957 remains one of the craziest matches in football history.

To set the scene, Charlton played most of the match with 10 men as Derek Ufton was injured – days before the substitutes.

Huddersfield led 5-1 with just 27 minutes remaining before suffering one of the most powerful collapses ever seen.

Addicks’ Johnny Summers began an extraordinary spell of play where he scored four goals and assisted two others, to see the home side win 7-6.

Huddersfield remains the only team in the history of English professional football to score six goals and lose a match.

9. Angola vs Mali – African Cup of Nations 2010

Mali staged a stunning comeback in the first match of the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations, drawing 4-4 ​​after being four goals down.

Angola led 4-0 with just 11 minutes remaining and many Malian fans were reportedly already leaving the stadium.

They showed why you should never leave a field early as a superb passage of play saw them come back to draw.

Former Tottenham striker Freddy Kanoute was among Mali’s scorers at the CAN launch.

8. Reading v Arsenal – League Cup 2012

Reading took a 4-0 lead in their League Cup match against the Gunners with a place in the quarter-final up for grabs.

Theo Walcott had reduced the deficit to 4-1 in first-half injury time, but few gave in. Arsenal the hope of changing things.

Three second-half goals then took Arsène Wenger’s side into extra time, where four more goals were remarkably scored.

Arsenal then won 7-5 in the highest-scoring match in League Cup history.

7. Portugal vs North Korea – 1966 World Cup

You might not have expected to see North Korea on this list… but it’s impossible not to include this match.

This quarter-final showdown, yes, North Korea have already reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup, at Goodison Park, was an absolute classic.

North Korea led 3-0 midway through the first half, in a complete shock.

Football icon Eusebio then scored four goals to claim a 5-3 victory in a memorable comeback.

6. West Germany v Hungary – 1954 World Cup

It is not for nothing that the 1954 World Cup final was nicknamed “the miracle of Berne”.

Hungary were heavy favorites to win this match after beating West Germany 8-3 in the group stage and leading 2-0 after eight minutes.

Hungary were also unbeaten in 31 matches and few saw the comeback that followed.

West Germany then won 3-2, scoring the winner six minutes from time.

5. Newcastle v Arsenal – Premier League 2011

The 2011 clash between Newcastle and Arsenal at St James’ Park remains one of the greatest matches in Premier League history.

The Gunners led 4-0 after just 26 minutes, before a red card for Abou Diaby completely changed the situation.

Joey Barton scored penalties either side of a Leon Best strike to bring Newcastle within a goal of the visitors.

The best was saved for last, however, when Cheik Tiote fired a thunderous volley into the bottom corner just three minutes from time, plunging St James’ Park into chaos.

4. Man United v Bayern Munich – Champions League 1999

The two teams were playing for a historic treble in that dramatic 1999 Champions League final.

Mario Basler had put Bayern 1-0 ahead early on and United went late to mount a comeback.

Teddy Sheringham scored in the first minute of injury time in a goal that everyone thought would send the game into extra time.

However, just two minutes later, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored a memorable winner at the Camp Nou in one of the most spectacular comebacks in football history.

3. Barcelona vs PSG – Champions League 2017

Paris Saint-Germain won the first leg of this round of 16 to seemingly book their place in the quarter-finals, barring a collapse.

This collapse indeed happened when Barcelona won the second leg 6-1 at the Camp Nou.

However, they stayed late to score the goals they needed, with Barca scoring three times in the final minutes of the match to make the score 6-5 on aggregate.

At halftime, Barca coach Luis Enrique reportedly said: “Boys, even if there are only five minutes left, you can still score three goals.”

His prophecy came true.

2. Man City v QPR – Premier League 2012

“Agueroooooooo!”

Who can forget that epic final of the 2011/12 Premier League season which saw Man City win the title.

City needed to win the match to beat their rivals Manchester United to the title, but found themselves 2-1 down against QPR at the Etihad.

Edin Dzeke equalized ahead of the iconic Sergio Aguero winner in the 94th minute, the most dramatic finale of a Premier League season EVER!

1. Liverpool vs AC Milan – 2005 Champions League Final

Think of the greatest comebacks in football history and minds naturally turn to the 2005 Champions League final.

Liverpool lost 3-0 in Istanbul against AC Milan and fans were seen leaving the stadium, unable to bear the misery any longer.

A remarkable six-minute spell in the second half saw Rafa Benitez’s side score three goals, including this special. Steven Gerrard strike.

They took the match to the penalty shootout where Liverpool’s Jerzy Dudek was the hero to accomplish ‘The Miracle of Istanbul’.
