West Ham face long night on Tyneside if they don’t score goals Newcastle and will face a long winter with an eye on the Premier League relegation zone unless they start moving their ideas away from the East End.

Only bottom club Southampton and poor travelers Brentford scored fewer than the five times the Hammers found the net on their travels.

After a victory at Crystal Palace and drew with Fulham and the Bees, Julen Lopetegui’s underachievers lost 4-1 at Tottenham and 3-0 at Nottingham Forest in the top flight as well as 5-1 at Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.

Home victories over Ipswich and Manchester United, which prompted the Old Trafford board to sack Erik Ten Hag, were followed by a dismal 0-0 draw with fellow countrymen Everton at the London Stadium in the last game before the international break and the Hammers are looking over their shoulders.

Newcastle, who are in the top six list for a return to European football next season, were strong at St James’ Park where they conceded just three goals – a feat which gives them market share with Liverpool. the best defensive record in front of their own fans.

Their last two home games were great efforts as they beat Arsenal 1-0 and Chelsea 2-0, so it’s no surprise that they are no better than a 1/2 ON overall to collect maximum points on Monday.
