Ruben Amorim says risks must be taken for Man Utd to progress

Despite being just 13 days into his tenure at the club, the patterns of Amorim’s philosophy were clear against Ipswich. While it may not be as smooth as United fans might have hoped, the boss firmly believes that implementing this style from day one is our best route forward.

“They think too much because things are so different,” he said of his players.

“A few details, they were passing the ball and moving forward and now they have to go back. These kinds of things, they have to think too much. (Diogo) Dalot was doing that, he was passing the ball and then he was going inside and playing in the middle of ground He must now remain in this position.

“It’s difficult for the players to try to manage all this in three days, but we have two solutions: we forget about the new idea – and I think that’s why I was brought here in the middle of the season – and we try to cope with what they are used to doing. And next year, at the same stage, we will be here with the same problems.

“Or we start now, we risk a little, we suffer a little and next year we will be better at this stage. So we have to take a little risk.”
