Guelph Police: Mother and son charged with ‘violent burglary’

Guelph police say a Kitchener woman and her son have been arrested following a violent burglary at a Guelph business.

Around 4:40 p.m. on Sept. 22, police were called to a business on Stone Road West. Police said staff observed a woman and three children, ages 10 to 15, walking around the store and placing more than $1,000 worth of merchandise into a basket.

“Two employees, believing they intended to steal the items, were waiting at a side exit as the parties attempted to leave with the occupied car,” a news release said.

Police said a fight broke out and both employees were attacked, with one suffering injuries to his arms and neck. The suspects escaped with items worth more than $500.

The 35-year-old mother was arrested Wednesday and charged with assault causing bodily harm and theft under $5,000.

Earlier this month, the mother’s 15-year-old son from Cambridge was arrested for assault and theft under $5,000.
