Brunswick County Schools Feed First Responders in 2nd Annual Holiday Meal

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — Dozens of first responders from across Brunswick County enjoyed a delicious holiday meal Thursday with all the trimmings.

Brunswick County Schools hosted its second annual holiday meal at schools across the county.

At Southport Elementary School, more than a dozen police officers and firefighters enjoyed a hearty meal of turkey, gravy, green beans and sweet potatoes.

Superintendent Dale Cole served meals to students and first responders who showed up to the school.

Southport Elementary School Principal Peg Bourne said it was a great way to do something good for those who serve and protect us every day.

“I think our first responders take very good care of our community and our students,” Bourne said. “They are an integral part of our school system and our community. But they also provide a wonderful role model for students and, you never know, someone might be inspired to become a firefighter or police officer one day.

15 schools across the district participated in the free holiday meal event, with members of the Brunswick County School Board also helping serve meals to 55 first responders.
