Lily and Margot, London Zoo’s flying parrots, found in Cambridgeshire

Two parrots have been returned to London Zoo six days after their escape, following multiple tips from residents.

Lily and Margot, two blue-throated macaws, took flight on October 21, flying freely as part of their daily routine.

However, after several reports from residents in Cambridgeshire, the zoo was alerted by a family from Buckden who had spotted the birds in the trees behind their garden.

The parrots fled the scene before ornithologists from London Zoo arrived, but were traced to a field and public footpath in Brampton.

It was there that the identity of the birds was confirmed: they were the missing Lily and Margot, who immediately flew into the arms of the zoo experts.

After Sunday’s rescue, the two were given pumpkin seeds, walnuts and pecans – some of their favorite foods – and taken back to the zoo.

They are said to be in good condition and are now in quarantine at the on-site veterinary hospital, after which they will join their parents Popeye and Ollie.
