KW Symphony announces its “return from bankruptcy”

The Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra makes its grand return after abruptly canceling its season a little over a year ago and then filing for bankruptcy.

“The Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra is pleased to announce its return from bankruptcy,” said a statement released Wednesday.

The release noted a hearing at which a proposal to creditors was approved by the Ontario Superior Court and resulted in the bankruptcy being discharged.

“The Board of Trustees is excited to work with (the symphony’s) musicians to continue a nearly eight-decade legacy of bringing audiences a diverse range of live concerts and outreach programs,” said Bill Poole , president of the symphony’s board of directors. said in the press release.

Poole became chairman of the newly formed board of directors which was elected in June.

At the time, Poole said the symphony had “no money” and would have to find a new way to operate in the future.

In Wednesday’s statement, Poole said the board aims to “define and realize a strategic and artistic vision for the future of (the symphony).”

Two concerts at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Kitchener are planned to close the calendar year, with more expected in 2025.

Poole asked the community to “spread the work and make sure these concerts are sold out,” and thanked the audience for their “overwhelming support over the past year.”
