Does the New York City Marathon route change every year?

The marathon route generally remains the same, but has changed slightly over the years.

It started in 1970 as a race around Central Park. In 1976, it extended to the five districts.

Then, in 2008, a corral system was introduced to assign runners slightly different routes through Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. However, they all merge at mile eight.
