Boozy trucker pulled off the road leads to charges for Brampton man, police say

Police have pulled a commercial truck driver from Brampton off the road after he was allegedly caught driving while impaired and failed to stop for officers.

The arrest happened on Tuesday after officers with the OPP Caledon detachment received a call from a Good Samaritan in the area of King Street and Dixie Road in Caledon.

Police say the caller was concerned about the driving of a commercial vehicle operator and that when officers arrived on the scene they discovered the driver was impaired by alcohol.

The 49-year-old driver from Brampton was charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), operation while impaired – alcohol, and driving commercial motor vehicle in contravention of conditions. The man from Brampton was also charged with failing to stop for police.

Ontario’s zero tolerance law, anyone driving under an AF license or a Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration cannot have any alcohol in your system.

Police suspended the driver’s license for 90 days, and the commercial vehicle was impounded for a week.

Police agencies across Ontario are now mandatory breathalyzer alcohol screening at every traffic stop on GTA highways, including the QEW and Highways 403 and 401.

Impaired driving offenses in Ontario can lead to immediate license suspensions, fines, vehicle impoundment, and enrollment in education or treatment programs.

Anyone who witnesses a speeding, suspicious or possibly impaired driver on Ontario roads can contact police by calling 911 when safe to do so. Anonymous tips may also be submitted to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by visiting www.ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
