BLOOMINGDALE — The Jefferson County Common Vocational School will open its doors to prospective students as area eighth- and second-graders prepare for their visit. Visits for eighth grade students will take place Monday through November 8. Sophomore visits are scheduled for November 19-21.

Supervisor and principal Andy Long said hundreds of students from Buckeye Local, Edison, Indian Creek, Steubenville Catholic Central, Steubenville and Toronto, as well as online and homeschooling programs, are expected to attend, to take a closer look at the establishment and the programs it offers.

Eighth-grade student tours will begin around 9:45 a.m. Monday, with about 400 students expected from Buckeye Local, Edison, Indian Creek and Toronto. During their stay, they will see all 16 JVS programs, including animal science management, automobile collisions, automobile service technology, carpentry, computer network technology, cosmetology, criminal justice, culinary arts, early childhood education, electrical trades, health technologies and heavy equipment operation. and construction, multimedia and design, power mechanics, Transition to Work and welding.

“During the tours, students will explore all of our programs and gain insight into the unique hands-on opportunities we offer here at JVS. » Long said. “The goal of these visits is to introduce students to career and technical education at a pivotal time when they are beginning to think about their future careers. We want them to understand that their future starts now and that JVS gives them a head start. Our goal is to inspire and engage them from the start, showing them that their education can have a real impact and open up career prospects for them while still in high school.

Sophomore visits will take place November 19-21 from 9:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. More than 400 students from Buckeye Local, Edison, Indian Creek, Toronto, Steubenville Catholic Central and Steubenville, in addition to students schooled online and at home, are expected. to attend.

Long-time students will receive a general overview of the programs and then select the top three that peak their interest. These three programs will be visited by the student for a more in-depth experience during a 45-minute session.
