Shared in the r/Anticonsumption subreddit, the Buzzfeed ad read: “36 Quirky Things to Impulsively Buy Before Fall Prime Day Ends Tonight.” The caption of the ad goes on to say how fun impulse buying is, especially when the items are on sale.

With many Americans struggling with an inflated cost of living, credit card debt, and the effects of the climate crisis, it’s no wonder the OP was angered by this ad.

Much of modern marketing involves self-care means buying things. Unfortunately, this is an easy trap to fall into. Ads like Buzzfeed’s are bright, colorful, and tell the reader that buying things they don’t need is fun.
