Highway 400 Halloween crash spooks drivers

A scary crash awaited several drivers on Halloween.

Shortly after 4:30 am on October 31, two or three vehicles were involved in a collision on Highway 400, south of Highway 88.

The crash left one of the vehicles in the live lane without lights on, said Theodore Dongelmans, interim media co-ordinator with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

“This resulted in a domino effect – leading to additional cars colliding with the original vehicles,” he said.

Eight vehicles collided and the highway was closed for several hours causing significant traffic delays.

One person was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

Dongelmans said a 36-year-old Scarborough man was charged with dangerous operation, operating while impaired, with BAC (blood/alcohol concentration) over .80.

Additional provincial Highway Traffic Act offenses were handed out to several other drivers, he said.
