Three people hospitalized after apartment fire in downtown Winnipeg

Three people were taken to hospital in stable condition after a fire Friday evening at a four-story apartment building in downtown Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Services responded to a report of a fire on Vaughan Street, between York Avenue and The Promenade, at 6:50 p.m. When they arrived on scene, they evacuated residents who were still inside the apartment, a news release said Friday.

Other residents were themselves evacuated before teams arrived.

Firefighters were able to attack the fire from inside the building and declared it under control at 7:16 p.m., the city said.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and no damage estimate is available.

Residents whose apartments were not damaged by the fire and smoke were able to return to their rooms, according to the city.
