In a surprising development, Shreyas Iyerthe IPL-winning captain, was not present Kolkata Knight Riders Retention List For IPL2025.
KKR CEO Venky Mysore explained that Iyer was the first name on their list, but the situation did not go as planned.

Mysore mentioned during an interaction with RevSportz“Shreyas Iyer was the first name of our retention list. However, the retention process is not a one-way street. It’s not just about honesty. It is also about the player who wishes to be retained, to continue with the franchise. Of course, Shreyas was the first name on our list. He was the captain. That’s why we got him in 2022.”
He added: “However, there are often things you cannot control. If a player wants to test their market value and auction is the best market to do so, it is always fair to let them do so. This is what we have always believed in at KKR and supported our players. On a personal level, I share a very good relationship with Shreyas, but it is also true that he should have the freedom to decide.
The IPL 2025 auction will feature three former captains, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh pantsAnd KL Rahul. Additionally, Rajasthan Royals parted ways with Jos Buttler, possibly presenting another captaincy choice for the franchises.
