F Noël plays at the Malthouse Theater from November 2024

For anyone who isn’t diving headfirst into the Christmas spirit the moment Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” takes over the world, we have a festive event that’s truly sledding.

Malthouse Theater latest production F Christmas is a wild, mischievous, punk celebration of the holiday, suitable for anyone who identifies as a little Grinch. The experimental play will close the theater’s 2024 season after an epic year of stories exploring and challenging concepts of belief, fate and ritual.

Following the same rebellious spirit, F Christmas questions the true meaning of Christmas as it follows a family of “queers, rebels and runaways” who break free from the capitalist machine that the holiday has become.

The play uncovers the toxic and outdated conventions surrounding the holiday, including the naughty-nice binary, the problematic tradition of sitting on Santa’s lap, and the overconsumption it fosters. In the spirit of ‘doing good’ at Christmas, the play also presents an idealized version of what December 25 might look like – but you’ll have to see it to find out.

Created and produced by Susie Dee (Melbourne Fringe’s Bad boy), F Christmas is also co-created by Sarah Wardwho stars in the series, and Bec Matthewswho is both performer and musical director.

Don’t miss this wild production that bares everything – including the tramps – and lands somewhere between a camp Christmas fantasy and a twisted apocalyptic nightmare, closing Malthouse’s season with a bang.

F Christmas runs from November 27 to December 15 with tickets ranging from $35 to $69. Get yours here.
