Those fighting to uphold Florida’s abortion laws rally in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. — People fighting to keep Florida’s abortion laws are gathering in Orlando to watch the results.

WPTV reporter Zitlali Solache is in Orlando at the Rosen Plaza Hotel to address those against Amendment 4.

John Stempberger, president of Liberty Counsel Action, says he and many others are optimistic the amendment will not pass.

However, Stemberger and many pro-life Floridians are concerned about the amendment’s wording. It’s terms like “viability” and “health care provider” that are too vague and the language characterizes as misleading. They also worry about the financial impacts of the amendment on taxpayers.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re pro-choice or pro-life, it’s a bad amendment,” Stemberger said. “This does not represent the mainstream of what Floridians want when it comes to abortion law, and that’s why it’s going to be degenerated tonight in the election.”

OBGYN Dr. Tamberly McCarus also lets her voice be heard on the proposed amendment.

“It just throws all safety standards out the window,” McCarus said. “This allows our state to be one of those states where you can abort your baby anytime, anywhere, for any reason.”

The amendment requires 60 percent of voters to say “yes” for abortion protection to be enshrined in the state Constitution.
