This Secluded Southern California Airbnb Cabin Is the Perfect Place for a Digital Detox

Our lives are increasingly connected to a screen. We work, chat with friends and family, look at nature photos and cute animal videos, find recipes, and even chat with medical professionals, all on one screen. It’s practical, but sometimes you have to stop and find a little balance. Why not take a break, reconnect with loved ones and enjoy real nature on a little getaway? I have just the place – one Airbnb serene cabin in the woods above Shasta Lake.

Aptly named “The Treehouse,” this beautiful A-frame is perched among the treetops overlooking Hirz Bay on Shasta Lake. From here you will only see tall trees, the valley below, stunning mountain peaks and the lake.

Inside, the living room is spacious and comfortable, with plenty of seating, comfy pillows and blankets. A wood stove adds pleasant ambience and warmth on cool evenings. The entire front wall is made up of windows and sliding glass doors, giving you epic forest views whether you’re curled up on the couch, sitting on the large front deck, or even enjoying a meal at the dining table.

The living room leads directly into the open kitchen and dining room, and you will have everything you need to prepare and enjoy your meals at home. You can even bring your favorite whole coffee beans and use the grinder to brew a wonderfully fresh cup every morning.

Everything about this place encourages taking a step back from the fast-paced, screen-facing technological world. With shelves filled with books in the living room and bedroom, you’ll find a virtual library to explore. Relax with a good read or bring the family together for a night of fellowship with one of the board games provided.

The mezzanine master bedroom overlooks the living room and may make you want to stay in bed with its comfortable queen bed and lake and forest views. And I love the dreamy lights on the beams in the bedrooms and living room! Yes, rooms in the plural. There is a second bedroom to the rear of the upper floor with a double bed and a lovely built-in bookcase.

You’ll have no problem reconnecting with nature from the comfort of your own home, even if you never leave the property. Of course, there is plenty to do in the surrounding area. You’ll find the Hirz Bay boat launch just four miles away, hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails, and Mount Shasta Ski Park less than 50 miles away. The cabin also happens to be centrally located between Lassen Volcanicredwood and Crater lake National parks.
