Harris to deliver speech after losing to Donald Trump in 2024 presidential election

Washington- Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to speak Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET from Howard University in Washington, D.C., after being defeated by former President Donald Trump in the race for the White House.

CBS News estimates that Harris received 222 electoral votes, fewer than the 276 received by Trump, her Republican opponent. Trump has exceeded 270 electoral votes needed to secure the presidency just after 5:30 a.m. ET Wednesday, after locking down the battleground states of Georgia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania And Wisconsin.

Harris was scheduled to address supporters at Howard, the historically black university where she graduated in 1986, on election night, but she never made it to her alma mater as the results came in. Instead, campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond sent out the assembled crowd. at home and said Harris would speak Wednesday.

Election Day, November 5, ended a chaotic and historic presidential election cycle that saw two assassination attempts against Trump and was upset by President Biden’s sudden announcement in July that he get out of the race following a disastrous debate at the end of June.

Harris quickly announced his own candidacy for the White House and the Democrats quickly gathered around her as their choice to take on Trump. Her the application has been solidified at the Democratic National Committee in Chicago in August, where Harris made history as the first woman of color to win a major party ticket.
