Mandai Wildlife Reserve to launch Singapore’s fifth zoo, Rainforest Wild Asia, in March 2025

Singapore may be known as a concrete jungle, but it’s also home to several beautiful natural parks And wildlife reservesperfect for a quick getaway to the great outdoors. And the list goes on: Singapore will welcome its fifth zoo in the Mandai Wildlife Reserve, Wild tropical forest of Asia, is expected to open in March 2025.

Wild Asian rainforest allows guests to choose their level of adventure while exploring an immersive rainforest setting, whether through calm, universally designed walkways or high-adrenaline scrambling trails and guided climbing adventures. They can explore its various layers, from the canopy of verdant trees to an exciting underground maze of cave chambers. The park is designed to allow the region’s iconic animal species, including tigers, sun bears, tapirs and gregarious langurs, to roam in expansive habitats. This immersive design gives our guests the chance to witness how different animals thrive in distinct rainforest settings. Most importantly, we hope to create a strong sense of connection with nature and a renewed determination to cherish and protect our planet,” said Mike Barclay, Group CEO of Mandai Wildlife Group.

An inclusive park that welcomes people from all backgrounds

Spanning 13 hectares, the park takes inspiration from the Afro-tropical region and Madagascar, recreating a lush rainforest environment with the planting of nearly 7,000 Southeast Asian trees and shrubs.

Accessible from Mandai Wildlife West, Wild Asian rainforest offers an immersive rainforest hiking experience with different trails to explore, allowing visitors to discover wildlife both above and below ground. Although designed for adventure enthusiasts, the park is also inclusive, with elevated walkways and sheltered rest areas for families with strollers and people in wheelchairs, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the diverse landscape and animals at a leisurely pace.

Those up for a challenge can embark on slightly more difficult terrain, peppered with fallen logs, rocks, streams and bridges. And finally, for the adventurous at heart, the operated experiences and guided tours go even further, offering high-quality traverses through rock faces, thrilling free-fall jumps and thrilling caving expeditions.

Observe 29 different animal species in their natural habitats

So what animals can we expect to encounter at Wild Asian rainforest? The park will be home to 29 animal species, including tigers, sun bears, tapirs, gregarious langurs, red dholes, babirusas, the endangered Francois’ langur, and the Philippine spotted deer. These animals will be presented at different times of the day, placed in stimulating environments in which they can thrive, which will in turn encourage natural behaviors in which we can observe and learn.

Wild Asian rainforest will feature 10 distinct zones, each showcasing different wildlife and offering unique experiences. In The KarstsJagged limestone formations rise above the canopy, providing a stunning backdrop as primates swing through the environment.

The rocky waterfall allows guests to watch the Malayan tiger navigate waterfalls, streams and rock outcroppings. The Canopy offers a glimpse into life in the treetops, home to species like the Java langur and red-legged langur.

Drinkerthe largest area of ​​the park, highlights the essential role that water plays in shaping the ecosystem. Here, look for the sun bear feeding among the trees and the Malayan tapirs roaming the forest floor below.

At the end, visitors can conclude their trip at The Cave has spot-running snakes and giant black scorpions. This 220-metre area mimics the world-famous Mulu Caves in Sarawak, made possible through a collaboration with the Sarawak Forestry Department.
