Man arrested, police officer injured in parking standoff after mysterious death in Port Melbourne alley

A man has been taken into custody following a mysterious death in Port Melbourne on Friday morning, with a police officer injured during a confrontation with the suspect.

Emergency services were alerted to an injured person in an alleyway in Port Melbourne on Friday morning.

Police located the injured man on Rouse Street around 10 a.m.

The man, whose identity has not yet been identified, died at the scene shortly after being found.

The man’s cause of death has not yet been determined, but witnesses at the scene reportedly saw him bleeding from the head.

Victoria Police have since arrested a 36-year-old man from Port Melbourne, who was found in a nearby car park.

The Herald Sun reports he was tasered and pepper-sprayed by police during his arrest.

Authorities confirmed he has since been taken to hospital under police guard.

A police officer was injured during the arrest, but his life is not in danger.

Earlier Friday, officers established a crime scene in the neighborhood, with police footage visible at the corner of Rouse and Nott streets.
