One of the ancient Thali platters of Chauhan

I imagine many of you are looking for something to break the haze of unease right now. Luckily, local restaurants and distilleries have you covered, so stay hungry and keep going.

November 18 will mark the 10th anniversary of chef Maneet Chauhan opening his popular restaurant Chauhan Ale & Homemade Masala restaurant at 123 12th Ave. N., introducing his playful approach to refined Indian cuisine to Nashville. On the occasion of her 10th birthday, the chef imagined a special celebratory meal to combine her heritage with her adopted city.

From Friday, November 15 through Sunday, November 18, Chauhan will offer what she calls an Ode to Nashville Meat-and-Ten Royal Thali. A thali is a traditional South Asian dish that is served family style at the table, usually comprising a main course surrounded by side dishes.

The centerpiece will feature hot Nashville hariyali chicken skewers, served with a plethora of sides including saffron pulao, black-eyed pea daal, tikka masala mac and cheese and more.

No reservations are required for the meal offer, but you are welcome to take your seats in advancebecause at just $48 per person, this should prove to be a popular promotion.

Jake Powell

Chef Jake Powell and Sous Chef Cody Bagley celebrate their 2019 Iron Fork triumph

With all the new chefs and restaurants arriving in Nashville, it’s unfortunately easy to overlook some of the talents who have continued to excel in their own kitchens. The kitchen at Peninsula is tiny, but chef Jake Howell and his team continue to bring incredible Iberian cuisine to the East Side.

Howell, former Iron Fork champion SceneIt is annual cooking competition in 2019does not seek acclaim or attention. He prefers to keep his head down and concentrate on the small plates that have earned him an excellent reputation. So it’s good that chef Chris Crary of 1 kitchen spotlights his compatriot by inviting Howell to be the guest chef at 1 Kitchen’s upcoming Chefs by Nature dinner on Tuesday, December 3. Crary and Powell both love cooking vegetables, and the menu for this 10-course feast will definitely be vegetarian. The Chefs by Nature series focuses on fresh, locally sourced ingredients, so this should be right up Powell’s alley. The range of fun and creative dishes includes squash tartlet and onion cream, sweet potato tea, lion’s mane and much more.

Tickets for the feast, which runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., cost $125, with the option to add a gin and tonic flight, wine pairing or tonic cocktail for an additional $50.

Places will be limited, so reservations are strongly encouraged.
