Just days after announcing the return of star Nolan Newton following his time with the Barrie Colts, the reigning NOJHL champions also added stalwart winger Daks Klinkhammer, who was reassigned this week from the Sudbury Wolves.

Klinkhammer made his Cubs debut Thursday in a 6-3 loss to the Hearst Lumberjacks. He and his new teammates were expected to aim for better results when they visit Timmins on Friday and Iroquois Falls on Saturday.

Klinkhammer, a 19-year-old from Ajax, Ontario with strong family ties to the Sudbury area, has nearly 100 games of OHL experience, first with the Flint Firebirds and then with the Wolves. He was acquired by the local major junior club in a multi-player trade last summer and dressed for five regular-season games before joining the Cubs.

“The Greater Sudbury Cubs are extremely excited to be able to add a player with the character and experience he brings to our roster,” Cubs general manager Dave Clancy said in a press release. “Daks is an exceptional young man who has decided to join our club to help it continue its development while providing strong leadership to our group. The Sudbury Wolves have a lot of good things to say about Daks and we can’t wait to see him flourish in a Cubs uniform. »

Klinkhammer is one of eight players on the roster who were drafted by OHL teams or played in the league. He is scheduled to play his first game at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex in Sudbury next Thursday, when the Cubs host the Soo Thunderbirds for an opening faceoff at 7:05 p.m.
