Why wouldn’t the bartender replace this woman’s spiked drink?

This bartender had a shocking reaction when a customer alerted him to someone potentially trying to drug her.

It’s common for people at the club or bar to buy each other drinks, but common wisdom is that you need to monitor the preparation of your drink and be aware of it throughout the night in case a creep sneaks a drug into it .

This woman did just that and then asked the bartender for help, but he was unhelpful.

A man offers a woman a drink

In a viral video with over 8 million views, TikTok User Randa (@damnranda_) explained that she was at a bar with friends when a man bought her a drink. However, she did not see the drink being prepared and before sipping it, she noticed that it contained visible red spots.

Wary of what could potentially be in there, specifically thinking it might be a date rape drug, she explained the situation to the bartender and asked if he could make her a new one.

Bartenders are meant to be allies in this situation, and some even have specific code words they use to help customers, especially women, get out of uncomfortable or potentially dangerous situations with men.

But in this case, the bartender doesn’t care.

“We’re scared,” one of Randa’s friends told her.

“I’m not wasting alcohol anymore,” he allegedly told her.

Randa told him he could have a drink, left with her friend and left the bar shortly after, no longer feeling safe in the bar.

What is date rape?

Date rape» is a term used to describe when the rapist already has a relationship with his victim, whether it is an acquaintance, a person with whom he had a date or an intimate partner .

It is also commonly used to refer to scenarios and drugs in which a person (stranger, acquaintance, or known party) introduces drugs into a person’s drink with the intention of taking sexual advantage of them.

Date rape drugs, also known as “Roofies”, are commonly tranquilizers called Rohypnol. But multiple substances, legal and illegal, are used in this act. They usually come in the form of a small tablet or tasteless liquid that may be undetectable to the human eye when mixed into a drink. These drugs are intended to disorient the person, make them too weak to fight back and may even push them to act out, depending on WebMD.

Roofies in particular can relax your muscles to the point that it is difficult to walk or stand, which can cause you to lose consciousness and pass out. Roofies typically take effect within 30 minutes, peaking around 2 hours. Even one milligram can stay in your system for up to 12 hours.

Signs to look out for

Many date rape drugs are difficult to detect, especially at a party or bar. Here are some red flags to watch for, according to WedMD:

  • your drink suddenly becomes fizzy or frothy
  • it tastes unpleasant, like it’s salty or bitter
  • a dark liquid becoming cloudy or a clear liquid appearing blue
  • residue, such as from a tablet that has not completely dissolved

What are bartenders supposed to do?

In general, bartenders are supposed to be allies to a potentially drugged person. However, there does not appear to be any concrete code or guide to which they are beholden.

You’d like to think that the bartender makes the drink again, confronts the suspect, and gets him out of the bar.

“As a bartender he was supposed to 1. Make it again 2. Ask you who the person was 3. Let his manager know so he could be on the lookout for this person. The bar can be held responsible! one user wrote.

“Wow. Mmh. And the drugs in this drink are CLEAR AS DAY! And he wouldn’t do it again?!?,” the first comment read.

“The bartender who doesn’t even act lightly is so creepy…” one person said.

“I would ask his name, tell his manager, leave a review,” added another.
