Texas Longhorns vs. Florida Gators Preview: Score Predictions

THE Texas Longhorns look to improve to 4-1 in the SEC and 8-1 this season when they play the Florida Alligators Saturday in Austin.

Meanwhile, the Gators are on the outside looking in at the SEC this year. They sit 2-3 in the conference standings and 4-4 overall after a loss to Georgia last week.

The injury to DJ Lagway in the second quarter of this game, the backup quarterback was placed on the injured list, currently listed as questionable and will be an in-game decision. If he doesn’t play, Florida will have to deploy third-year freshman Aidan Warner, who has had little success since seeing the field.

The outcome will change drastically depending on who’s under pressure for Florida, but regardless, here’s what the staff predicts for the game.

Florida is a tough place to solve. If DJ Lagway starts at quarterback and plays effectively, the Gators could be dangerous, as we saw against Georgia last week. Nonetheless, the Longhorns are clearly the better team. It’s not easy, but the Horns improve to 8-1.

The Gators have found momentum in their last few games, and the Longhorns will need to find theirs if they want to avoid another upset at home. Texas will either pull away like they did against Vanderbilt or get back to the offensive rhythm they once had during the first half of the season, and I think Quinn Ewers will have a field day against Florida.

Even if DJ Lagway plays, I don’t think he’ll be fully healthy. And because of that, I say Florida’s offense is struggling to score. The Gators defense has the ability to help with field position, but Texas will outplay any punch Florida gives. Isaiah Bond will have a touchdown in his return from injury game and Texas will find its rhythm, but won’t pull away until the second half like they usually do against weaker opponents.

Texas 38, Florida 10

I think Texas will get off to another slow start in this game and Florida takes the lead with an early basket. The Longhorns certainly won’t underestimate a Gators team that has shown improvement in recent weeks, but Steve Sarkisian’s group will pick things up in the second half. Predicting Quintrevion Wisner to catch a touchdown and run for another. DeAndre Moore Jr. will also find the end zone. Quinn Ewers won’t throw an interception for the first time in SEC play.
