Fit and healthy: X-ray technicians

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — On this day in 1895, x-rays were discovered, paving the way for advances in the science of medical imaging.

That’s the focus of this week’s Fit and Well Idaho report.

At St. Luke’s Magic Valley Medical Center, X-ray technicians play a vital role in the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients.

Over the years, medical imaging has advanced significantly, as MRIs, CT scans, and mammograms have become available to help detect health problems and diseases.

We spoke with Megan Baker, an X-ray technician at St. Luke’s, about the impact her service has on patient care.

“A lot of people don’t realize it; we have our hands on almost everything,” Baker said. “When everyone thinks of health care, they think of nurses, doctors, blood tests. But we play a crucial role in helping people understand what’s going on inside them.

Radiology Technology Week is also an annual event celebrating the discovery of X-rays.
