Update: A look at the candidates in Sligo-Leitrim ahead of the general election

The list is dominated by candidates from Sligo with the only four Leitrim the overall natives being Bláithín Gallagher (The Green Party), Martin Kenny TD (Sinn Fein), Leitrim Cathoirleach Paddy O’Rourke (Fianna Fáil), Des Guckian (Independent).

Sinn Fein again chose to field two candidates in the constituency after winning two seats here in 2020. Fianna Fáil also fielded two candidates.

The list welcomes three current TDs running for re-election: Marian Harkin, Frank Feighan and Martin Kenny. While Eamon Scanlon, nominated by Fianna Fail in recent weeks, has also held the TD role, winning elections in 2007 and 2016.

The deadline for candidates to apply for the election is November 16. Massive changes to the ticket are unlikely at this late stage.

Michael Clarke (Independent Ireland), Cllr. Edel McSharry (Fianna Fáil), Cllr.
