Residents of one of Burnaby’s largest seniors’ care homes witnessed a moving tribute to Canada’s military ahead of the Remembrance Day long weekend.

The George Derby Center — located at 7550 Cumberland Street – held a candlelight ceremony for veterans on Friday afternoon, November 8.

The event featured vintage Canadian military vehicles as well as a field of 5,000 handmade poppies.

A bugle major and bagpipes led the local procession, made up of 25 community leaders in attendance, including the Belgian honorary consul and a representative of the French consulate.
