THE New York Giants could lose one of their key weapons on offense this offseason. Veteran Darius Slayton is playing out the final year of his contract, set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2025. Given the team’s direction and their refusal to extend Slayton last offseason, he will likely play his final matches with the team. .

Darius Slayton has been a consistent playmaker during his time with the Giants

Slayton has been among the Giants’ most reliable players over the past six seasons. A fifth-round pick in 2019, Slayton has led the Giants in receiving yards in four of the last five seasons, surpassing 700 receiving yards in each of those team-leading four campaigns.

Although he never established himself as a No. 1 starting player, Slayton developed into a quality second receiver and was a great complementary piece to rookie star Malik Nabers this season. However, despite his success, the Giants opted not to extend Slayton this season, making him a likely starting candidate next offseason.

Giants seem likely to move on from Slayton in 2025

This past offseason, Slayton held out through spring training in hopes of landing a revised, higher-paying contract with the G-Men. However, the Giants didn’t bite, instead opting to give him an incentive raise, rather than increasing his annual salary or extending the length of his contract.

The additional incentives amounted to just $650,000 more than the original amount of his deal (according to ESPN’s Field Yates). This minimal increase could indicate the lack of value the Giants place on Slayton. He could still be extended this offseason, however, there is a realistic chance that another team in the league chooses to pay Slayton more than the Giants are willing to do.

Slayton’s name came up in trade discussions before this season’s deadline. However, the Giants opted to hang on to Slayton, perhaps indicating they hope to extend him this offseason. But with many holes to fill on the roster, the Giants might not have enough budget to pay Slayton an attractive contract. He could make more than $10 million per season on his next contract – a number the Giants appear unlikely to achieve.
