Elon Musk suffers ‘humiliating demotion’ with Trump’s DOGE nomination

Lawrence O’Donnell flipped the script on Donald Trump’s nomination of Elon Musk to a position that doesn’t yet officially exist Ministry of Government Effectivenesswith MSNBC’s bitterly anti-Trump anchor calling it not a promotion – but a “humiliating demotion” for the X owner and Tesla CEO.

“Donald Trump announced that he would give Elon Musk a job that doesn’t exist and that will last a maximum of 18 months,” O’Donnell said Tuesday evening. Worse yet, Elon Musk, the richest person in the world, was assigned a working partner who, like Musk, has never worked in a government before: Vivek Ramaswamy, who isn’t even billionaire.”

O’Donnell did not explain why Ramaswamy’s relative wealth was relevant, but also mocked Musk for not receiving “his own press release from Donald Trump,” noting that he had to “share” it. with the millionaire.

“Musk received the first shared press release regarding Donald Trump’s nomination announcements,” O’Donnell said. “Even (Pete Hegseth), who’s not even the richest person at Fox, got his own press release… That’s right, a Fox weekend morning host for the Secretary of Defense. “

O’Donnell’s show was recorded before Trump announced the cabinet nominations of Tulsi Gabbard, Marco Rubio and Matt Gaetz on Wednesday, calling Tuesday “the stupidest day ever in Trump personal ads.” He also noted that his other cabinet appointments were to permanent federal ministries – while DOGE was not.

“Running a department of the U.S. government makes you a cabinet secretary,” the lawyer explained. “The Department of Defense is headed by the Secretary of Defense, the Department of the Treasury by the Secretary of the Treasury, etc. Creating such a department would require an act of Congress and a budget…the Department of Government Effectiveness, which has no office, desk, or office chair in government, will likely be located in the Executive Office Building next to the White House…this could mean Musk will be allowed to send budget ideas to the still-unnamed director of the (budget office), a real job at the White House.

O’Donnell then predicted a short-lived DOGE regime led by Musk: “If all goes well for the Trump administration staff – unlike the last one – Elon Musk will be the first to be expelled because Trump already expelled him in 2017. the press release announcing his appointment to a non-existent position.

In the initial announcement, Trump insisted that the DOGE program would complete its work by July 4, 2026. Musk at least seemed optimistic that the work would be completed within that time frame.
