Deadline approaches for Lethbridge business owners to reduce waste

Lethbridge business owners and organizations are reminded that the deadline for the annual waste diversion report is fast approaching.

All organizations and businesses must submit the mandatory report by January 31.

Home-based businesses are excluded from the regulations’ requirements because they are subject to residential waste, organics and recycling requirements.

The city said the industrial, commercial and institutional sector accounts for nearly two-thirds of all waste landfilled in Lethbridge each year.

The report is designed to increase landfill diversion rates and reduce business waste. More than half of the waste deposited in the landfill comes from the city’s economic sector. The requirements were developed to help the sector reduce waste and to align with the City of Lethbridge’s goal of reducing commercial waste by 45 per cent by 2030.

The report can be viewed at City of Lethbridge Website.
