The acclaimed drama returns in 2025 for another season of survival horror

When it comes to psychologically twisted horror, leaving more to the imagination often makes for a frightening experience.

This is apparently the philosophy behind Yellow vests” cryptic new teaser, which offers the briefest glimpse of its upcoming third season, which premieres Friday, February 14. Seriously, blink — and you might miss it.

As the 15-second clip begins, the camera zooms in on two bees crawling around the eye socket of an earth-crusted skull. A necklace with a heart-shaped ring also hangs from the socket.

As the camera slowly zooms out, the tagline appears on screen: “This Valentine’s Day.” Eat your heart out. Meanwhile, excerpts show actors in various states of anguish, including Sophie Nélisse screaming into the freezing unknown.

Although they are not part of the visual, Hilary Swank and Joel McHale will be guests in the new season.

Season 3 will likely pick up after the events of the Season 2 finale, after the Yellowjackets – a high school football team from New Jersey stranded in the Canadian wilderness – resort to cannibalism. But instead of devouring Natalie (Sophie Thatcher), their victim became Javi (Luciano Leroux), who fell through the ice while hunting.

After learning what the Yellowjackets did to Javi, Coach Ben (Steven Krueger) isolated himself at Javi’s old hideout.

Meanwhile, in the 2020s, Lottie (Simone Kessell), Van (Lauren Ambroise), Nathalie (Juliette Lewis), Taissa (tawny cypress), Misty (Christine Ricci) and Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) recreated the tradition of deciding who would be hunted by choosing a queen from a deck of cards. The group eventually fell victim to their teenage trauma during the ritual and began tracking down Shauna after she chose the queen on the bridge.

Callie then shoots (but does not kill) Lottie to save Shauna and interrupt the chase. When Lisa (Nicole Maines) – a member of the compound who has already befriended Natalie – notices what is happening and threatens to kill Natalie, Misty tries to save her friend, but Natalie pushes Lisa out of the way to save and is accidentally stabbed by Misty with a lethal injection.

In an interview with PEOPLE in April 2023, Jasmine Savoie Brownwho plays young Taissa, explained that becoming a fake cannibal on Yellow vests made her somewhat ambivalent.

“It was disgusting…but also kind of delicious,” she said then. “That’s all I’m going to say about that.”

In a scene from the second episode of season 2, jackfruit rolls and rice paper were used as a substitute for the flesh, but Nélisse admitted it was still an “absolutely disgusting” experience.

“It was just that (I) couldn’t figure out what I was doing, and all I could see was this weird skin,” she continued. “And it was so realistic.”

Season 3 of Yellow vests premieres Friday, February 14 on Paramount+ with Showtime before its on-air debut on Sunday, February 16.
