Big freeze hits services on Merseyrail network

Many services on the Merseyrail rail network have been disrupted as breakdowns, technical problems and icy conditions have led to delays and cancellations.

Services on Ellesmore Port, Southport, Huntscross/Ormskirk and Headbolt Lane via the Kirkby lines were facing delays, the network said.

Rail replacement buses have been introduced in some areas to compensate.

Merseyrail said customers should be wary of changed or canceled services.

National Rail said: “Multiple incidents affected services on the Merseyrail network this morning.

“As a result, trains on some lines may be canceled, delayed up to 60 minutes or revised until around 10:30 a.m.

“Customers are advised to make alternative travel arrangements where possible.”
