Beta Sigma Phi feeds veterans

The Library Veterans held their weekly meeting in the social hall of the First Methodist Church on Monday morning, November 18, at 9 o’clock, with Johnny Tapley, President, presiding. There were 45 people. The Beta Sigma Phi sorority provided eggs and cheese, grits with sausage, cookies and muffins, orange juice, grape juice, apple juice, cranberry juice and coffee. After prayer from veteran Emory Fennell, they enjoyed the exceptional breakfast. Veteran Johnny Tapley spoke about all the activities they have participated in over the past ten days, including five different veteran school programs, the raising of the new 8′ X 12′ American flag on the new flagpole at Harmon Park and the Remembrance Service. and Downtown Square Recognition Event. He also spoke about the upcoming “Wreaths Across America” event on December 14. Two weeks before that date, on Nov. 30, they will place American flags on veterans’ graves at Swainsboro City Cemetery to help lay wreaths two weeks later. Additionally, veteran Terry Reynolds is in charge of the 13th Annual Sportsman’s Banquet and Auction taking place this Thursday evening, November 21, at 5 p.m. at Beaver Creek Plantation, 3698 Hwy. 80 East, Twin City. This event will include social time, a prime rib meal, as well as silent and live auctions. All proceeds go directly to the local group Wounded Warriors, a Georgia 501 C3 nonprofit organization that provides opportunities for wounded veterans and their families to enjoy the great outdoors.
