Navigating Starches with Nutritionist Jen Avis

MONROE, La. (KNOE) – Not all starches are created equal.

Nutritionist Jen Avis joined Good Morning ArkLaMiss to figure out what foods diabetics should eat.

“In our minds, we often take a healthy starch and think, ‘That’s not even a starch,’ even though it may have quite a few carbs in it,” Avis explained.

Avis said diabetics can eat starchy foods in moderation.

Here is a list of recommended foods:

Food Measure Crabs
Corn, mashed potatoes, peas, lima beans, dried beans, sweet potato, English peas ½ cup 15g
Rice (brown, white) 1 cup 45g
Pasta 2 oz. 45g
Cornbread Muffin 1 muffin 30g
