A cryptocurrency entrepreneur who identified himself as the buyer of a viral artwork depicting a yellow banana stuck to the wall with adhesive tape said he would eat the fruit as part of a “unique artistic experience.”

In a post shared on X on Wednesday November 20, Justin Sun said he was the one who purchased the artwork — titled “Comedian,” created by artist Maurizio Cattelan — for $6.2 million at an auction at Sotheby’s.

“It’s not just a work of art; it represents a cultural phenomenon that connects the worlds of art, memes, and the cryptocurrency community,” Sun wrote in his post on X (formerly known as Twitter). “I believe this piece will inspire more thought and discussion in the future and become part of history.”

“I am honored to be the proud owner of the banana and look forward to it sparking more inspiration and impact for art lovers around the world,” Sun continued.

And that’s not all he’ll be doing with his new $6.2 million possession.

“Plus, in the coming days, I will personally eat the banana as part of this unique artistic experience, honoring its place in both art history and popular culture. Stay tuned! ” Sun concluded.
