The government interrupts its recruitment campaign

Labor CS Alfred Mutua speaks at the National Polytechnic, Nyandarua on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

The government has temporarily halted nationwide recruitment of job seekers wishing to work abroad.

Labor CS Alfred Mutua said the pause was to allow the government to take stock of the progress made so far.

The exercise, which began on November 20 in Machakos County, has so far covered six counties.

“We’re going to take a little break from continuing the recruiting process so that we can do a little stocktaking, a little bit of reorganization of the processes from what we’ve learned and also be able to process what we’ve gotten now so that people can go abroad,” Mutua said.

He spoke at the Nyandarua National Polytechnic where the recruitment exercise took place on Wednesday.

The exercise was scheduled to take place in Kakamega County on Thursday, but Mutua said it was now suspended until the inventory was completed.

He attributed this to a human resources problem, saying the same officers involved in recruitment are the same ones needed to review the process.

The examination process, he explained, involves ensuring that the successful candidates registered so far have all their documents in order.

“So we are stopping for a short period of time so that I can have a meeting with all the parties involved to make sure that the passports are out, that the certificate of good conduct is out, so that I can push for this treatment is carried out. be done before resuming.”

This pause, the CS explained, will further allow the government to realign calendars following requests from some governors, as the current dates conflict with other pre-planned events.

He added that this pause will also allow the team to incorporate site suggestions from local leaders to improve the program’s effectiveness.

“So I want to realign myself also with the leaders who are doing a lot of mobilizing for us so that we go to the appropriate time with the leaders of the different counties: the deputies, the county assembly, the governors and the senators.”

The exercise has so far taken place in Machakos, Kitui, Nakuru, Nyandarua, Baringo and Makueni counties.

Mutua said the turnout was overwhelming and the numbers were expected to increase further when it resumes, with a view to covering all 47 counties.

“I am pleased to announce that 5,931 Kenyans have been getting overseas job opportunities since the launch of the government’s national recruitment exercise barely ten days ago,” the CS on X said.

He said Nakuru recorded the highest number in 2,516 followed by Nyandarua (925), Kitui (901), Machakos (752), Baringo (640) and Makueni (410).

The CS said the initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to linking qualified Kenyans to employment opportunities abroad to address the pressing problem of unemployment in the country.

“I would like to assure all successful candidates that they will be contacted by Wednesday next week and a new schedule for the exercise will be announced after Jamhuri Day.“Mutua emphasized.

Mutua said that The exercise demonstrates the government’s seriousness in empowering Kenyans through labor migration as the job offer will not only transform the lives of individuals but will also significantly contribute to increasing remittances of foreign funds to the country.

The SC urged young Kenyans to embrace technical training across the country’s many institutions as employers around the world seek individuals with technical expertise.

“We are optimistic that the program will expand to cover all 47 counties, ensuring that more Kenyans benefit from these opportunities. With clear objectives and steady progress, this effort is an important step towards combating against unemployment while strengthening Kenya’s links to the global labor market.” Mutua said.
