The Manx Lottery Trust has relaunched its thematic fund to focus on welcoming spaces

Funds to encourage the creation of “spaces to thrive” within communities have been made available to charities and not-for-profit organisations.

The Manx Lottery Trust is inviting groups to apply for grants of between £2,501 and £25,000 from its relaunched thematic fund.

The theme of the awards aims to support projects that “bring people together and improve key community spaces”.

Applications may aim to support new or existing projects which will be completed within 12 months.

The previous version of the scheme had authorized grants of up to £50,000, with the £150,000 fund awarded in stages over a three-year period.

But reviews of the grants capped them at a maximum of £25,000 in the latest application cycle, which will see £50,000 made available for projects over a year.

The Trust said this would increase the number of projects the thematic fund can support, in order to “reach a wider network of organizations dedicated to improving the wellbeing of our communities”.

“Supported and empowered”

To be eligible for a grant, projects must meet three key objectives:

  • Create accessible and welcoming meeting spaces
  • Encourage active community participation to make a difference in areas that matter to them
  • Taking a preventative approach to improve community health and well-being

The Trust said examples of potentially eligible projects included community center refurbishments, inclusive activities and mentoring for young people, mental health and wellbeing initiatives, and improved insulation and the energy efficiency of the community buildings in which the events take place.

Trust chairman Stephen Turner said the theme reflected “a commitment to helping communities create spaces where people feel connected, supported and empowered”.

“This funding provides groups with the opportunity to make transformative improvements, whether by revitalizing community spaces or fostering inclusive activities that make a real difference,” he added.

The application deadline is February 28, 2025.
