BNP Deputy General Secretary Rizvi Ahmed today urged the caretaker government to seek help from United Nations peacekeeping forces to provide security to the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Agartala.

“The Indian law enforcement agencies have failed to provide security to our high commission. The officials and employees of the mission in Bangladesh do not feel safe,” Rizvi said at a conference of press at the party office in Nayapaltan.

He also said: “In this situation, the interim government should seek help from UN peacekeeping forces. »

Rizvi also claimed that some extremist religious groups, “instigated by the Indian BJP”, were trying to create instability in Bangladesh.

He said: “It is regrettable that these small extremist groups are trying to disrupt the peace. We urge the interim government to control these extremists. »

He, however, urged Indian leaders to focus on their domestic affairs.

“We urge Modi (Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi) and Mamata (West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee) to handle their own problems. Here in Bangladesh, all communities live in peace,” he added .

Bangladesh has no enmity towards the Indian population in general, he added.

“As neighbors, we extend the hand of friendship, but if hostility arises, the people of Bangladesh will not accept it,” he said.

He added: “Anyone who feels unsafe should inform the government, and the government will take appropriate action. »

The BNP leader also called on international human rights organizations to investigate allegations of persecution of minorities in Indian states.

“We urge them to investigate these incidents and take strict action against the perpetrators,” he said.

After the press conference, leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated organizations took out a protest march in response to the recent attack on the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Agartala.

The march, which started around 1 p.m. from the party office in Nayapaltan, saw a large participation of BNP supporters.
