Chennai: Families in Villupuram, Cuddalore and Kallakurichi districts who bore the brunt of the damage caused by Cyclone Fengal will get assistance of Rs 2,000 each, Tamil Nadu chief MP Stalin announced on Tuesday.

Chairing a meeting at the Secretariat here to assess the rain damage in the state, the chief minister directed officials to provide a relief sum of Rs 2,000 on the basis of family ration cards to families whose means of livelihoods were affected due to very heavy rain in Villupuram, Cuddalore and Kallakurichi districts. These districts experienced unprecedented rains for more than two days.

The meeting decided to extend humanitarian assistance to the rain-affected people in Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Thiruvannamalai, Cuddalore, Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts, and provide Rs 5 lakh as compensation each to the families who lost their loved ones due to the cyclone or floods.

The government has decided to provide Rs 10,000 as compensation for damaged huts, give priority to construction of houses under the Kalaignar Kanavu Illam (housing project) for completely damaged huts, provide assistance of Rs 17,000 per hectare for rain-damaged rice crops, including irrigated crops. farmers, and Rs 22,500 per hectare for perennial crops and damaged trees.

It also decided to provide Rs 8,500 per hectare for damaged rain-fed crops, Rs 37,500 as compensation for loss of livestock including bullocks and cows, Rs 4,000 for loss of goats and sheep and a relief of Rs 100 for rain-fed crops. loss of chicken.

Special camps will be organized in rain-hit areas to issue certificates, voter ID cards and other documents lost or damaged due to floods, the government said in a statement.

Textbooks and notebooks damaged by rain will be provided to the students concerned.

The Chief Minister himself visited Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Tiruvannamalai and Cuddalore districts to assess the rain damage and supervise relief and restoration works, while Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and state ministers supervised relief works in various other districts of the state.
