Marshall County residents voice opposition to industrial solar installations at meeting

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) – Plans for industrial solar installation in Marshall County have once again been met with public discontent.

Tuesday evening marked the second meeting of the zoning appeals committee.

Tamarack Solar Energy Limited Liability Corporation is requesting a special exception to permit a large solar farm in Marshall County.

The application includes 50 individual land parcels where the oversized solar array would be built. Marshall County residents opposed to the solar farm have hired a law firm to fight the project.

We spoke with attorney Jason Kuchmay of Snyder Morgan and Kuchmay shortly before the meeting began.

“We think it’s bad for the community. It’s bad for the agricultural world. Certainly, this negatively impacts all neighboring properties. We produced evidence last time that this would have a negative impact on property values, for example. This will lead to a loss of jobs. And it’s just a very inefficient form of energy. There are so many better ways to do this,” Kuchmay said.

There weren’t as many critics present at the meeting as last month, when the Marshall County Zoning Board of Appeals held its first meeting about the special exception request. Yet there was plenty of opposition that sounded in loud, stentorian voices.
