Should Hong Kong allow EV drivers to view movies and other videos on the main screen?

Hong Kong should clearly define rules on what can be displayed on screens used by vehicle drivers. electric vehicles (VE) to ensure security, observers said, as lawmakers consider legal changes that could allow videos to be played on screens.

Transport and Logistics Secretary Lam Sai-hung said on Wednesday that a legislative amendment expected to be submitted this month would remove some restrictions on features that can be used in electric vehicles.

The move would potentially allow content unrelated to driving, such as videos, to be displayed on the visual display unit in front of the driver’s seat.

The changes also include the ability for motorists to use a mobile phone to park their vehicle remotely, a feature widely available for electric vehicles in mainland China, the United States and some European countries.

Duncan Chiu, a lawmaker responsible for the innovation and technology sector, urged authorities to make the changes quickly.

“We should make rapid changes to allow these vehicles to have the functionality to watch videos inside the vehicle only when it is in park mode. It does not affect security,” Chiu said.
