Nonprofit collects items to help Dallas students stay warm – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Although many children are writing letters to Santa and counting gifts under the Christmas tree, thousands of families in North Texas are feeling financial hardship and will not be able to even meet basic needs.

It’s a harsh reality, but many North Texas families are struggling to keep their children warm this winter. It’s there Communities in Dallas Area Schools supports more than 10,000 children.

The Dallas nonprofit is working to fill the gap with its annual Holiday Drive, collecting new winter essentials like coats, socks, gloves and more to ensure no student have to face the cold without protection.

They’re also collecting hygiene products, snacks and blankets to make the holiday season a little brighter for local students and provide additional resources during winter break, when children don’t have access to free hot meals at school.

Donations are being accepted until December 16 to ensure Christmas delivery and these items are in the hands of families as we prepare for the coldest temperatures of the season.

For the past 40 years, Communities In School of the Dallas area has placed qualified staff in high-need schools across North Texas to address behavioral and mental health, attendance, social services and academics.

The nonprofit organization partners with fourteen area school districts and has staff across a total of 130 elementary, middle, and high school campuses to address issues that place a child on the list. at risk” from the State of Texas Education Agency.
