Kate Middleton’s Risky Snow Bunny Look Was Perfect — Here’s Why

There’s something incredibly covetable about ski style this time of year. Thick polo shirt knitwear brightly colored, all-in-one, fluffy hats, snow boots and a big pair of glasses – divine.

And while glasses don’t work particularly well on morning commutes, we find plenty of style inspiration for cozy evenings at the pub from those at the slopes.

In 2005, the princess of wales – then the girlfriend of Prince William – made a stylish appearance during the royal family’s ski trip to Klosters in Switzerland. She opted for a bright red ski jacket and a pair of classic Y2K sunglasses (remember, reader, eye protection is essential on the slopes). To complete her look, she somewhat unexpectedly paired her sporty ensemble with a delicate pair of pearl earrings.

The image shows a woman dressed in a bright red ski jacket, carrying skis over her shoulder. She has dark brown hair pulled into a ponytail and wears sunglasses pushed up on her head. She is also holding ski goggles and wearing black gloves. The background appears to be an outdoor ski area with visible signs, and the atmosphere suggests a cold, snowy environment. Kate Middleton in Klosters, 2005

We’re big fans of combining practicality with a touch of old-fashioned elegance, while still maintaining a sense of formality even in a sporty environment. We will follow suit by associating our big knitwear with pearl earrings or a pearl necklace worn over a polo collar.

The image depicts a woman outdoors in a snowy setting, wearing a bright red ski jacket with "HEAD" visible marking on the chest. She is holding a pair of skis and ski poles, and wearing black insulated gloves to keep warm. Her blonde hair is short and she wears a red and white braided headband on her head. Her expression is calm and slightly smiling, and she looks ready to ski or do some cold-weather activity. The bright snow in the background enhances the wintry atmosphere of the scene.© Anwar Hussein
Princess Diana, Klosters, 1986

It would be remiss of us not to mention another royal’s crunchy slope style here, Princess Diana I also visited Klosters in 1986 for a little shoo-shoop action.

She also opted for a red box paired with a pair of gold hoop earrings to add a touch of luxury. And we just have to mention its red and white padded headband. 80s perfection.

King Charles and his sons in Klosters, 2005

In 2005, Kate joined King Charles – then the Prince of Wales – in Switzerland, alongside Prince William and Prince Harry. The royal family has a soft spot for the resort, with King Charles visiting there several times during his life.

Princess Kate’s style on her trip — just three years after she and Prince William began dating — showcased her laid-back approach to chic style, even in a sporty setting. Her go-to ensembles set the tone for the subtly refined looks with a touch of luxe that we know her for today.
