BNP to establish government based on accountability

If the Bangladesh Nationalist Party comes to power, it will establish a government focused on accountability to the people, its acting president Tarique Rahman said yesterday.

Speaking at a training workshop in Cumilla, Tarique presented the BNP’s 31-point state reform proposal, urging party members to widely disseminate these proposals across the country.

He stressed that the outline represents the BNP’s governance plans, aimed at resolving national issues in stages once in power. He called for the inclusion of all democratic views in the proposal, which was updated from an initial 27-point plan to 31 points.

Tarique also highlighted the sacrifices made by his family, referring to the martyrdom of his father, former President Ziaur Rahman, and the suffering of his mother, Begum Khaleda Zia, and his brother Arafat Rahman. He criticized the Awami League government for destroying the education system and promoting corruption.

The BNP leader said young people should be made aware of corruption from a young age. He said the education system should be modernized to produce qualified citizens. He also said that the public transport system should be improved, adding that coordinated efforts should be made to combat traffic jams.

BNP standing committee member Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, who inaugurated the workshop, called for early general elections, promising that the BNP would win a fair vote. The event brought together BNP leaders from Cumilla, Brahmanbaria and surrounding districts, with the intention of extending the training to local levels.
