Travis Hunter wins Biletnikoff and Bednarik prizes; impresses fans as Top WR, Defender | News, Scores, Highlights, Stats and Rumors

Travis Hunter, Colorado’s two-way star, was recognized for his efforts at both cornerback and receiver.

Hunter received the Chuck Bednarik Award, given annually to the best defensive player in college football. He became the first member of the Buffaloes to earn this honor.

He went on to win the Biletnikoff Award as college football’s top receiver:

While being Colorado’s No. 1 receiver throughout the year, the 21-year-old also started on the edge in all 12 contests for the team.

Fans were impressed by his feat.

Hunter’s ability to force turnovers at key moments in Colorado’s wins throughout the year helped the team finish with a 9-3 record and improve to 4-8 in 2023, which included a forced fumble that sealed a 38-31 victory over Baylor. September 21.

On Thursday, he won the award over finalists such as Penn State linebacker Abdul Carter and Ohio State safety Caleb Downs. Carter’s 20 tackles for loss led the Big Ten, while the entire Downs racked up 62 total tackles for the Buckeyes in 2024.

The Hunter’s Bednarik Award win, however, was not unanimously approved.

Travis Hunter is the best player in college football. Abdul Carter is the better defensive player and may not be a particularly tight end. Carter lost Nagurski (to Kyle Kennard) and Bednarik (to Hunter). Mad.

Hunter also finished the year with a conference-leading 92 catches.

He was also selected as a finalist for the 2024 Heisman Trophy.

Although it remains to be seen whether he will win Heisman honors, he has consistently been selected as the best receiver in college football and the best defensive player overall.
